Cat and Phil Weekend 6&7 July 2019, EHU, Ormskirk

From the fashion floors of Condé Nast in New York to the wooden floors of Sangyé Yoga School, cat had officially traded in her Manolo Blahniks for a more ‘grounded’ approach to life
…in bare feet.
Cat is originally from New York City and has been calling London home since spring 2004. She feels very privileged and grateful to have been involved with the previous incarnation of Sangyé Yoga School (Jivamukti Yoga London) since its inception and manifestation in 2005. With sincere love and admiration, she thanks Manizeh and Danny Rimer for always seeing the best in her. She convinced them to give her a “job” to help run the studio but they kindly encouraged her to serve in a greater capacity.
Simply put, just another ordinary yoga teacher who happened to pick up some titles along the way: Advanced Certified (Jivamukti), SYT (Senior Yoga Teacher – Yoga Alliance UK) and Co-Director of SYS alongside her husband Phil…
…phil is enjoying the second decade of committed daily yoga practice- the first ten years were the hardest!
reluctant to teach & slow to learn- he eventually came to understand that teaching was an extension of practice- in being able to share some insights and the stillness that can be experienced. phil (almost) completed a 10 year apprenticeship with cat alip-douglas. by his own admission, he was “most likely the worst apprentice she has ever had”. despite this, he regularly co-teaches with her on retreats & workshops.

We love welcoming Cat and Phil to the North West – Join them @ £30 per workshop or buy all three for £80

Saturday 6th JULY 10.30 – 1.30

Buddhism: The Four Preliminaries/Reminders  and practicing with awareness.
Asana components: Complete and somewhat challenging vinayasa practice beginning with foundational elements that are often rushed through. The pace will be slow and steady (usually the challenge:), exploring the effect of breath and movement integration on the quality of the mind.
Suitable for all levels including adventurous beginners.

Saturday 6th JULY 3-6pm

Emptiness (shunyata) or selfless-ness (non-self)  is a key concept in Mahayana Buddhist philosophy. This workshop will begin with a brief introduction on how we erroneously grasp at a sense of self that is intrinsically real – convinced that it is really real! We will then explore some of the inverted postures. Often these postures can be amongst the most psychologically challenging to learn, with a natural sense of fear. This process can highlight the self-grasping that arises which gives birth to a heightened level of fear.  Asana components: Complete vinyasa practice incorporating headstand, forearm stand, and how to approach handstand will be covered. Suitable for all levels, except complete beginners.

Sunday 7th July 9am – 12pm

Vehicles of Buddhism: This workshop will introduce the 3 turnings of the Dharmic Wheel and aim to give a brief overview of the characteristics of each development. We will then look at some of the deeper back bending postures. Back bending can also be amongst the most dis-stressing postures to learn in the beginning stages of practice. However, due to the lack of intrinsic reality to the postures, with time and intelligent practice they can shift from the impossible to the not only possible, but actually blissful.
Assana components: Complete vinyasa practice incorporating various techniques on back bending. Be prepared to receive homework!
Suitable for all levels, except complete beginners.
